The Madness

I usually write some kind of a researched piece. Today, though, there is no need. Those of you who are convinced, are convinced. On the other hand, those of you who get the truth, get it. I've tried to present the logic and background of my position on this issue, but it doesn't seem to work. The globe is in the grips of a mass hysteria.


The reasons for it are that many liberals have no religion, so this has become their religion. Plus, many religious people are joining the hysteria too, because the arguments for the mythology seem reasonable.

I'm speaking, of course, of the green madness. The Inconvenient Truth illness. Arrogant Hollywood stars fly in their jet planes, ride in their limos, and live in their air-conditioned mansions while advising the rest of us to ride the bus and use one-ply toilet paper. It's disgusting.

Yes, Let's Go Green

Again, I don't mind that we go green. I do care, though, that we be reasonable. I know many of you don't hear this on the media, who are co-conspirators in the myths, but hundreds of scientists do not believe that global warming is caused by mankind's actions—but rather by the natural cycles of the Earth. Tell that to the masses.

To Sheryl Crow: Do Some Reading

To Sheryl Crow, stop ruining the environment with your obsessions. To the people who want to get things right on this issue, it is your responsibility to get educated. Go back to school or do some relevant reading, and learn the scientific method, which requires evidence, not mantras. Do the world the favor, too, of exploring the opposing arguments. Believe me, Al Gore and you, Sheryl, are not experts on what is or is not happening to the world's climate.

Global Warming?

For the last time, yes, there might be global warming. But, Kyoto will not help. Read how little Kyoto will do to offset the warming. You'll be shocked.

The Best Ways to Save the Environment

For the last time, yes, go green, but don't ruin the world doing it.

You want the two best ways to save the environment? Control population growth, and develop technology. The more people—the more cars, the more air-conditioners, the more ... you get it—the more CO2. Plus, technology is not the enemy. Industry is not the enemy. Just the opposite.

Fewer people. Better technology. Simple.

A Documentary on Michael Moore

What Goes Around Comes Around

I find this hilarious. It validates my judgment to myself. I was thinking of making a documentary about Michael Moore, showing his hypocrisy, and voila, a pair of liberals beat me to it. Of course, they didn't mean to be negative. They practically worship the guy. Still, his duplicity shines through their film.

AUSTIN, Texas - As documentary filmmakers, Debbie Melnyk and Rick Caine looked up to Michael Moore.

Then they tried to do a documentary of their own about him — and ran into the same sort of resistance Moore himself famously faces in his own films.

The result is "Manufacturing Dissent," which turns the camera on the confrontational documentarian and examines some of his methods. Among their revelations in the movie, which had its world premiere Saturday night at the South by Southwest film festival: That Moore actually did speak with then-General Motors chairman Roger Smith, the evasive subject of his 1989 debut Roger & Me, but chose to withhold that footage from the final cut.

The husband-and-wife directors spent over two years making the movie, which follows Moore on his college tour promoting 2004's Fahrenheit 9/11. The film shows Melnyk repeatedly approaching Moore for an interview and being rejected; members of Moore's team also kick the couple out of the audience at one of his speeches, saying they weren't allowed to be shooting there.

You can read the full article to get all the details. The point is, Michael Moore's whole reason for making the documentary Roger and Me was that Roger (Roger Smith) supposedly was inaccessible, and wouldn't meet with Moore. Whoops! I guess Mr. Moore wasn't entirely honest was he? His other documentaries are just as full of holes, as is Mr. Gore's An Inconvenient Truth.

Great Editing

Left-wing documentaries, and organizations for that matter, are like this. They are propaganda pieces designed to inflame people and set up fundraising for pet projects. Gore's got the whole world scared. Hollywood continues to honor people like Moore and Gore. I'd rather have "more gore," Hollywood horror movies, than anything Moore and Gore manufacture. I will see their movies, because they are entertaining. I feel bad about them, though, because they masquerade as truth, and people believe them.

We ought to have a board of Truth that looks into the validity of the claims of documentaries, including left- and right-wing films. After all, you can lie with pictures, photos, and interviews. It all depends on the editing. If you're Michael Moore you just leave out the fact that you did meet with Roger. If you're Gore, you leave out the scientists who don't believe that global warming is as bad as he says it is.

Leftists are great editors.

Not a Big Fan

I'm a big fan of movies, but not of present-day Hollywood. Since the present crop of stars are so shallow, in my opinion, I am not overly eager to watch their annual self-worship.

One thing I dislike is the hypocrisy. These guys, with their air-conditioned limousines, energy-guzzling mansions, gas-powered boats, private jets, and other toys for the rich deliver more CO2 into the atmosphere than a thousand coal plants, yet they are so sanctimonious about the environment.

Fact: A Gulfstream III private jet releases 10,000 pounds of carbon dioxide an hour.

Public records reveal that as Gore lectures Americans on excessive consumption, he and his wife Tipper live in two properties: a 10,000-square-foot, 20-room, eight-bathroom home in Nashville, and a 4,000-square-foot home in Arlington, Va. (He also has a third home in Carthage, Tenn.) For someone rallying the planet to pursue a path of extreme personal sacrifice, Gore requires little from himself.

They bash capitalism, which provides them their living. They are anti-business, while at the same time stuffing cash in their pockets from the companies paying for commercials they star in. They are anti-war, any war, just or not, though it's these wars that ensure them their freedom. Many of them are even anti-American, with a snobbism about the country that elevated them to fame and fortune.

It Wasn't Too Bad

The Oscars last night did not inflame me as much as they sometimes can. I am always aware of watching them with two personas. One persona is Rock the everyday guy, who likes to just relax and have a good time with them. The other persona is Rock the concerned citizen, who is focused on the usual harm that Hollywood does to our society. I was able to relax most of this Oscar presentation and not get overly concerned. One reason might be that I TIVO the thing now instead of listening to it raw. So, I skip over the endless Thank You's and most of the commercials. I admit that maybe I missed some inflammatory remarks.

All Praise Be to Gore Almighty

The segment that did bother me was the hero worship of the inconveniently truthy Al Gore.

I know that some of my Republican friends are taken in by the global warming hysteria too, so I find myself quite alone sometimes in calling for calm and perspective on the subject. Nonetheless, every week now, more and more reputable scientists are saying that we don't yet know if global warming is a serious problem or not, and we certainly aren't sure that it is manmade. Yet, for leftists, the thing has taken on the air of a religion, much like liberalism in general.

Al Gore is God now. They might as well just open up the heavens and take him up. I'm convinced that if he ran for president this time, he'd have a real chance.

Most of the Time, They Shut Up and Sang

Anyway, Hollywood seemed to be somewhat muted on the political front this Oscars, thank goodness. Ellen DeGeneris only made one dumb liberal remark, the usual leftist slur that Al Gore really won the election, laugh laugh. Most of the time, though, she and the actors, actresses, singers and dancers shut up and sang. Of course, there were the usual liberal choices for awards, like Gore's flick and Melissa Etheridge's song for it, I Need to Wake Up. I do agree that she needs to wake up, as do all her liberal friends. If she wants to go green, then let her carpool to the next Oscars.

Good Day for Minorities

I'm happy that it was a good day for African Americans and other minorities, except for Eddie Murphy. Forest Whitaker won best actor for his charismatic performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. Jennifer Hudson, a former American Idol contestant, scored the best supporting actress award for her debut performance in the musical Dreamgirls. Murphy was the favorite in the Best Supporting Actor category, but Alan Arkin got the nod. Some say it was because of Murphy's recent release of the low-brow Norbit that hurt his chances.

It Was a Bit Boring, and I Know What Could Rev It Up

DeGeneres, I think, did a good job, but the show was a bit boring. They ought to ban people reading from lists. Thank goodness for TIVO.

I repeat, again, and again, just think what a patriotic Hollywood could accomplish for themselves, let alone for America. Their ratings would soar. They'd have the country cheering and tuning in, I believe, if they were gung ho behind the troops, praising the President, and showing respect for America. I'd watch that show without my TIVO.

Bush and Bush's Progress on Some Important Issues of Our Time

There are many things going on at this time on the world news platform. Everything seems in flux. This post is a gut check on our future with Bush at this moment in time with regard to some of the important issues. It is personal and subjective. The connection with truth is just one person's view of things, and it will only be valid to the extent that other people's views are added.

Bush Overall

Bush appears to be on the upswing at this time. His poll numbers are lower than ever, yet there is something noble and presidential about him lately. He seems to be combining persistence with flexibility.




He is sticking with his positions on important issues, but is open to other ways of seeing things. I've listened to him speaking both on and off the cuff, and he is actually more eloquent than ever. He has taken the path of effectiveness. He concedes reality, that he is a lame duck president and that he might not be articulate at times; but he still wields power, and his communicating skills are improving with his self-acceptance. He certainly has a vision for the world, and he is starting to depict it with some skill.

I think this puts Bush in a good position. His poll numbers will rise.

Iraq

Bush is following through with his idea of a troop surge in Iraq despite opposition in America from most Democrats, some Republicans, and many voters. He is listening to the military commanders on the ground. One huge problem lately is American losses of helicopters, along with their personnel.

I am reminded that this is exactly how Osama bin Laden, with American help and shoulder fired missiles, drove the Soviets from Afghanistan several years ago. The military, with Bush's blessing, is going to adjust to this new threat, however, unlike the Russians.

Democrats are the ones, I believe, in the untenable position on Iraq. Though the American people are disillusioned with Iraq and want the U.S. to get out, they are becoming aware of the bloody aftermath that will follow if the U.S. leaves. Moderate Democrats have gone on record with their votes and statements that they think the surge will fail. This puts them in the position of having to cheer for American failure in Iraq. They have always cheered for American failure in Iraq, in my opinion; but with these votes, this anti-American sentiment is exposed. Will Ted Kennedy, for example, ever say "Good job!" to Bush if the troop surge works? Never. Kennedy has committed to the failure of the surge, and will be looking for any signs that he has been right.

The Democrats have made the mistake of playing to the polls, instead of doing what is right. The American people will see through this.

If the surge doesn't work, then at least Bush will have tried. If it does work, then the world will be a better place; Democrats will be exposed as the demagogues they are; and Bush's stature will soar.

Nuclear Issues with Korea and Iran

Bush just had a major success with his "stubborn" policy with Korea. Thanks to the arm-twisting of the Chinese, Korea has agreed to stop developing nuclear weapons. This is a major diplomatic success for Bush. Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton, independent as ever, thinks the United States is being bamboozled, much like happened to Clinton, where the North Koreans sign an agreement and then ignore it. In my opinion, though, this time is different, since, thanks to Bush's wisdom, China is included in the enforcement of the agreement; and North Korea does not want to cross China. Here again, the Democrats will not give Bush credit for this historic achievement, but the American people will.

If Bush is lucky, he can turn around now and use much the same tactic with Iran. In this case, with Korea as the model, he can urge the European powers, and Russia, to do the arm-twisting with Iran. This is not so far-fetched as it once seemed now that the Korean situation seems to have been solved.

Putin has been sounding hysterically critical of the U.S. lately, but Bush is not taking the bait. He is not responding in kind to Russia. This is just more evidence that Bush has matured into quite a diplomat as of late. He is acting and sounding presidential on the world stage, and his steadfastness is bearing fruit.

Global Warming

Every day now there is another scientist speaking up that the world is in hysteria about global warming, and that there is no evidence that the warming is caused by mankind's behavior. Yet, the consensus is there that Al Gore is right about the issue. To me, we are in the middle of another Copernicus syndrome. It is as if 75% of the scientists and an even higher percentage of the people were saying the sun revolves around the earth and not vice versa.

All I can do is keep expressing the truth, along with the 25% of the scientists who know what they are talking about.

This is the truth:

The earth may be getting warmer, but not as dramatically as feared. Some ice is melting on the globe, but other ice is thickening. Sea levels may rise, but only inches, and not the twenty feet that Al Gore preaches. Climate change may occur, but this is largely unpredictable. Computer models are highly complex, and bear little resemblance to reality. Plus, the effect of CO2 levels on global warming is not proven. There have been times in earth's history when CO2 levels were higher than now, and the earth was colder at those times than it is now. According to the same scientists who believe in the global warming hysteria, following Kyoto and decreasing CO2 levels will have a negligible effect on global warming anyway.

Unfortunately, Bush is buying in to the hysteria, as most world leaders have. So, we are on the verge of spending billions of dollars on corrective measures that have no guarantee of success. As I've said before, I think we ought to go green, and develop alternative forms of renewable energy, but we ought not to get hysterical about it. The sky is not falling.

Bush is wrong on this one. Let's hope he doesn't become a lemming.

Social Security

The Democrats have successfully demagogued this issue, and it is dead. The left have frightened Americans and especially seniors that privatizing Social Security would mean fewer or less secure benefits, while the opposite is true. Bush never did a good job of explaining this issue to the American people, and it appears as if his time is running out on it.

Capitalism

The Social Security issue is emblematic of Bush's inability to preach capitalism to the people. This is why the socialist left is rising, with people like Nancy Pelosi and Ted Kennedy taking center stage. It would be very easy to use socialist countries as illustrations, for example, of the kind of bureaucratic nightmares that occur with socialized medicine. Bush, the first president in history with an M.B.A., is just not teaching capitalism effectively.

The Future

I deliberately deferred some important issues to another time, like immigration.

That said, I sense that the future for Bush will be positive, with some setbacks along the way. Iraq will work out better than expected, although not ideal. Bush's Korean policy will succeed, and even Iran will come around. America will go green, hopefully not hysterically. Because of Bush's rising stature, at home and around the world, the U.S. will even take one last look at some of Bush's overlooked programs, like Social Security.

In short, I believe the worst is over for Bush, and for America. Bush's star is rising. I believe historians will agree that we have just now reached a positive tipping point. They will judge that Iraq was worth it. They will perceive that the world was made a better and safer place thanks to Bush, the American military, and a steadfast diplomacy that can only come after a demonstration of resolve.

Pandering President Pursues the Arnold Effect

Lo and behold, I turned on the TV just now and saw General David Petraeus' (our proposed new leader in Iraq) confirmation hearings, and heard him saying much of what I was asking for in yesterday's post, My Fellow Americans.

I am astounded. I realize that I'm not that powerful, but it's as if I sent a request out to the ether and got an answer, the very next day!

Anyway, I am happy, and dumbfounded.

Petraeus spent many minutes going over the Iraq War, speaking honestly, going into depth, explaining the risks, exploring the uncertainties, and discussing the plan in detail for the troop surge. These were my advice for Bush in yesterday's post:

• Do talk about Iraq at length.


• Level with the American people as much as you can, and give them the feeling that you have a plan for all contingencies.


• Think of a way or ways to involve the American people in the sacrifice for this war.

General Petraeus answered the first two requests, in depth!

Now, Mr. Bush, if you are listening, do some of this kind of talking yourself, and involve the American people in the sacrifice for this war, and we've got something.

Now, on to my more negative tone for today's post:

A Sinking Presidency

I know some of my conservative readers are not going to agree with me on this post, so I apologize ahead of time. My liberal readers might agree with me, but not for the reasons that I come to my conclusions.I reach my conclusions from frustrated conservative principles, deeply disappointed in a President who is choosing the Arnold Schwarzenegger route to popularity.

Nixon, Carter, Bush

Bush, at Low Point in Polls, Will Push Domestic Agenda - New York Times:

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22, 2007. Carrying some of the worst public approval ratings of any president in a generation, President Bush is heading into his State of the Union address on Tuesday night seeking to revitalize his domestic agenda but facing stiff resistance over the initiatives the White House has previewed so far.

According to a CBS News poll conducted Thursday through Sunday, 28 percent of Americans approve of the way the president is handling his job, and more than twice as many, 64 percent, disapprove. It is the lowest approval rating the president has received in a CBS News poll, though it is statistically little different from the rating of 30 percent he received earlier this month.

Only Jimmy Carter has received a lower approval rating, 26 percent, in 1979, in surveys conducted by CBS News or its polling partner, The New York Times. In a Gallup poll conducted in August 1974, just before his resignation, Richard M. Nixon had a 24 percent approval rating.

In a new ABC News/Washington Post poll made public on Monday, only 33 percent approved of Mr. Bush’s job performance, and 65 disapproved, tying the record for his worst marks in that poll.

Disastrous Misreading of the Polls

Asked about the new batch of low ratings, Mr. Bush’s spokesman, Tony Snow, attributed them to discouragement over Iraq that could be overcome at home.

“George W. Bush as a president,” Mr. Snow said, “is not somebody who is going to cease to be bold because there has been — because right now people are concerned about the progress of the war. Instead he understands his obligation as commander in chief is to go ahead and address forthrightly big problems and come up with solutions that not only are going to have political appeal, but they’re also going to be effective in making life better for Americans.”

Administration officials said Monday that among Mr. Bush’s proposals would be a plan to help states provide health care coverage to people who lack insurance by diverting federal aid from hospitals, especially public institutions. The provision is likely to draw loud criticism from municipalities across the nation and will significantly affect the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation, the nation’s largest municipal health care system.

Officials said Mr. Bush’s speech would include proposals to address the nation’s energy needs and global warming, partly by promoting the use and development of alternative fuels. He is also expected to renew his call for an overhaul of immigration law and to propose altering tax policies to help the uninsured.

Mr. Snow and President Bush's advisors are dead wrong. Bush's low approval ratings are due to what this blog has been saying for months, that Bush is simply not leveling with the American people, and not communicating well with them. He is not paying sufficient homage to the Truth.

He is not unpopular because of the Iraq War per se. He is unpopular because he has tried to be popular in the way he wages this war, and he has not explained Iraq well.

(See Breaking News at the start of this post. Is Bush finally leveling? Let's keep our fingers crossed. He definitely is changing strategies and tactics, which is a good thing.)

Nice Guy Bush

He is also unpopular because he has tried to be a nice guy, and have everyone like him, with the opposite results.

Regarding Iraq, again, he has fought a politically correct war, tying the hands of our armed forces.

(Again, is this going to change with the new commander, Petraeus? Let's hope so.)

With regard to immigration, Bush has tried to buy the votes of Hispanics, angering many conservatives, dooming our country to third-worldedness, bankrupting our hospitals, overloading our entitlement programs, and filling our jail cells.

He has outspent any Democrat.

He now is pushing phony causes like global warming, so the Democrats and Independents will like him.

They won't.

(Here, as I've said before, I don't mind our country going green. I hate mercury in ocean fish. I just don't want the hysteria and pandering that feed off fear. Al Gore is a demagogue folks, believe it.)

Why the Schwarzenegger Approach Won't Work on a National Scale

Arnold's left veer worked in California because my state is basically a leftist encampment. Many people in California are limousine liberals who want nothing but feel-good politics that make them think they are being nice to everyone, from the environment to the poor, but without really being nice to anyone.

My theory is that real goodness, really being nice, means a kind of tough love. It involves making hard choices as well as goody-goody choices. You can't have everyone love you. If you try, then you become a populist or a demagogue.

Veering left has worked for Arnold because the people are getting what they deserve, the feeling that they are nice. In reality, they are ruining the state for everyone, and this is not nice.

The Schwarzenegger approach won't work for the entire U.S.A. For one thing, half the country really is red. The left will always hate Bush. This means he'll get about 50% disapproval from America even if he is perfect. Yes, the Iraq war exacerbates this, so make that a 55% disapproval when you include Iraq. Then include another 5% disapproval for Bush fighting a politically correct war. Then, add and another 10% disapproval from conservatives as Bush veers left, and makes a shambles of issues like government spending and immigration. Add another 2% disapproval for Bush's pandering to everyone. This adds up to a 72% disapproval rating. It is Bush's perfect storm of disapprobation

One Conservative's View of Bush

I am a conservative. Ask me if I approve of the way Bush is handling his job and I will be counted among the people who disapprove.

Issue by issue, I rate him high on the decision to invade Iraq, on the War on Terror, and on the economy. I rate him the lowest of the low on his conduct of the war in Iraq, his communicating with the American people, immigration, government spending, and his pandering to the left and trying to be a nice guy.

This is the tricky part to understand: though I disapprove of President Bush's overall performance, he still has performed admirably on arguably the two most important issues for me—on invading Iraq, and on the War on Terror.

So, while I disapprove of Bush's performance overall, I do not regret voting for him, as no other politician in America, I believe, would have invaded Iraq; and no other politician, I believe, would have kept us safe from terror. On these issues, all the other politicians are wussies, and Bush is the giant.

Quite a conundrum.

2008

For the next election, I believe, with all due respect, we have had enough of Bush, and are ready to move on to new leadership. The Republicans, though, like Mr. Bush, are dramatically misreading the 2006 elections and the recent polls. They sense a need to move left and be the nice guy Republicans. They are so wrong, and they will pay for this with even more losses in congress.

The only Republican who even comes close to what I want in a leader at this time is John McCain.

Has his pro-surge stance hurt him in the polls? No. Just the opposite. McCain has the reputation, even among liberals, as a straight shooter, and they respect him for this, even when they disagree with him vehemently.

It May be Too Late for Bush

Republicans, it's not too late. Learn a lesson.

For Mr. Bush, it does appear too late. He will exhibit his pandering self tonight in the State of the Union, and his polls will not rise because of it.

(Again, add the positive caveat of what I saw today with General Petraeus. If this is a sign of things to come, perhaps Bush will rise a bit in my estimation.)

This is the third in a series of posts questioning the validity of arguments by the global warming alarmists. The first two posts were An Inconvenient Truth, exposing the lies and exaggerations in Al Gore's movie; and, The Sky is Falling, So Give Me Some Money, revealing the hidden agendas driving the global warming alarmists; and this post presents some positives about global warming.

Is Global Warming Always Bad?: by Patrick J. Michaels. Michaels is a senior fellow in environmental studies at the Cato Institute and author of Meltdown: The Predictable Distortion of Global Warming by Scientists, Politicians, and the Media. He says:

Have you ever read anything good about global warming? Why is all the news always bad? Objectively speaking, any environmental change should have both positive benefits and negative effects.




For example, theory predicts and observations confirm that human-induced warming takes place primarily in winter, lengthening the growing season. Satellite measurements now show that the planet is greener than it was before it warmed. There are literally thousands of experiments reported in the scientific literature demonstrating that higher atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations -- caused by human activity -- dramatically increase food production. So why do we only hear one side about global warming? Perhaps because there's little incentive for scientists to do anything but emphasize the negative and the destructive. Alarming news often leads to government funding, funding generates research, and research is the key to scientists' professional advancement. Good news threatens that arrangement.

Some Positives About Global Warming

Global Warming's Silver Lining: Wired News. Benny Peiser, a social anthropologist at Liverpool John Moores University, said: "From a purely evolutionary point of view, warm periods have been exceptionally good to us. Cold periods have been the troublesome ages." The possible positive side effects of global warming have researchers like Peiser ready for changes to come.

While Peiser admits the price of global warming will differ for every region of the world, "the benefits outweigh the costs by far," he said.
This could be especially true in regions of Russia where the harsh winters can kill hundreds in a single city.

A group of 26 scientists and economists contributed to The Impact of Climate Change on the United States Economy, a book edited by Yale University professors Robert Mendelsohn and James E. Neumann. The book finds that a moderate warming will have a positive economic impact on the agriculture and forestry sectors. Since carbon dioxide is used by plants to capture and store energy, there may be a fertilizing effect as levels of the gas rise. This, combined with longer growing seasons, fewer frosts and more precipitation, among other factors, could benefit some economic sectors.

Another economic boost could come from the establishment of new trade routes as a direct result of global warming.
As rising temperatures melt glaciers in the Arctic and particularly in Alaska, a new, faster trade route could open up. The Bering Strait, a legendarily difficult passage for ships, could become an oceanic highway between the hemispheres as ice sheets disappear.

Business investors in the Arctic region (a former oxymoron) are anticipating an influx of everything from tax revenue to tourism. The seldom-used strait is set to become the Suez Canal of the north, cutting down travel time between Europe, America and Asia by as much as one-third. Experts predict the passage will be open for year-round travel within a decade. Less fuel will be consumed using this route,

A final potential upside to global warming is that with every degree Celsius warmer our planet gets, we could have up to 20 percent more calamari. Phillip Lee, director of the National Resource Center for Cephalopods, points out that squid are extremely sensitive to temperature, and individual cephalopods react to warmer weather by developing a larger body mass.
Squid, which are mostly protein, can grow significantly faster than other animals. The largest squid ever captured was 16 feet long and weighed in at 330 pounds. But stories of monster squid up to 60 feet have been around since the 1800s.

While optimists know not every outcome will be positive, they believe the overall effect will make us think back to the hysteria and wonder what the fuss was about.

Escalating greenhouse gas levels may significantly boost production of fruits and seeds in crops such as wheat, rice, and soybeans, according to a recent study.

Other researchers have summarized the positive effect of elevated carbon dioxide on leaves, stems and roots.

Damages and Benefits of Warming: "Health and Amenity Effects of Global Warming" Thomas Gale Moore, Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, Stanford University.

A somewhat warmer climate would probably reduce mortality in the United States and provide Americans with valuable benefits. Regressions of death rates in Washington, DC, and in some 89 urban counties scattered across the nation on climate and demographic variables demonstrate that warmer temperatures reduce deaths. The results imply that a 2.5 deg. Celsius warming would lower deaths in the United States by about 40,000 per year. Although the data on illness are poor, the numbers indicate that warming might reduce medical costs by about $20 billion annually. Utilizing willingness to pay as a measure of preference, this paper regresses wage rates for a few narrowly defined occupations in metropolitan areas on measures of temperature and size of city and finds that people prefer warm climates. Workers today would be willing to give up between $30 billion and $100 billion annually in wages for a 2.5 deg. C increase in temperatures.

It could. Higher levels of CO2 would be conducive to plant growth. Additionally, higher average temperatures would mean longer growing seasons. Both of these factors would mean increased food production.

Conclusions

I have presented for you only the tip of the iceberg on this subject, forgive the pun again. The effects of global warming of course will not all be good. On the other hand, when you read any liberal site, or any work by a scientist who depends on funding for his anti-global warming theses, there is nothing good stated about the phenomenon. Common sense tells you otherwise. Every change in circumstance has its positive effects and its negative effects.

The reason why these scientists and liberal sites lie, exaggerate and present only one side of the truth, as in Al Gore's movie, An Inconvenient Truth, is that they do want the green. Only not the green of the earth, but the green in their pockets. Environmentalism is big business, replete with grants and funding and devices and reputations. Al Gore pumped more CO2 into the atmosphere with his criss-crossing the globe condemning pollution than many factories do in a year, to say nothing of all the air-conditioned and the at-the-source coal-heated venues at which he spoke.

Another thing that nobody is speaking about is that ice ages do occur, and we cannot predict when one will arrive, or why. What if we are on the verge of an ice age, right at this moment? We will need all the global warming we can get if this would occur. These things are always in flux.

What I request is truth. This post in and of itself presents only one side of a truth, exactly as the global warming alarmists do. The whole truth will contain evidence from both sides whether global warming is really happening; the good things about global warming, the bad things about it; and accurate likely predictions of what life will be like if global warming occurs.

This series of posts demonstrates that it is not universally agreed that global warming will occur; that if it does occur it will not be as bad as the alarmists predict; and that if it does occur, there will be both positive and negative effects from it.

I again say that going green is a good thing, as long as we don't get hysterical about it. I repeat, you are not the devil if you buy a Hummer, and you are not an angel if you purchase a Prius.
